Tracks and clips

Organize MIDI and audio as independent clips on arrangement tracks.

The arrangement contains tracks, and tracks contain independent clips placed in time.

Tracks

A track provides a lane in the arrangement and owns track-level sound and mixer state:

  • Name and color
  • MIDI or audio kind
  • Instrument assignment for MIDI tracks
  • Ordered effects
  • Volume, pan, mute, solo, record arm, and monitoring
  • Automation lanes

Selecting a track makes it the current Device and mixer target.

MIDI and audio tracks

  • MIDI tracks contain note data. Their Device chain begins with an instrument and continues through effects.
  • Audio tracks contain references to recorded or imported audio. Their Device chain begins with effects and does not show an instrument.

The two track kinds share arrangement, mixer, automation, and export concepts, but Sympose does not pretend their content editors are identical.

Clips

A clip is an editable region on a track. It has its own name, start, length, and content offset.

Each arrangement clip is independent. Duplicating or splitting a MIDI clip creates new editable clip content; changing one copy does not silently rewrite another. Audio clips may refer to the same underlying immutable asset while retaining independent placement and trim state.

Selecting a clip opens its content in Clip view:

  • MIDI clips open in the piano roll.
  • Audio clips open with waveform and trim controls.

Arrange clips

You can create, move, resize, trim, rename, duplicate, split, copy, paste, and delete clips. Sympose validates placement and reports conflicts rather than silently overlapping unsupported regions.

Use clear track and clip names. They help both you and the agent identify the intended target, especially in larger projects.
