Sampler and drum instruments

Work with sample-backed instruments, drum kits, pads, presets, and project dependencies.

Sampler and drum instruments use recorded sources while remaining playable and editable through MIDI.

Sampler instruments

A sampler maps one or more audio sources across playable pitches and velocities. Choose a compatible factory or user preset, then use the focused Device controls to shape supported playback behavior.

The preset and project record the source identity and settings required to reconstruct the sound. If a required local asset is unavailable, Sympose reports the dependency and blocks misleading playback or export.

Drum kits

A drum kit maps individual sounds to MIDI pitches. The pad grid and piano roll share that mapping: selecting or playing a pad corresponds to notes on that pitch.

Use kit presets as a starting point, then adjust supported kit or pad behavior in Device view. Clip view remains the place for rhythmic note editing.

Change the performance or the sound

  • Edit MIDI notes when you want to change the rhythm, timing, or velocity.
  • Edit the Device when you want to change the source or processing.
  • Edit effects when you want to process the track after the instrument.

This separation keeps the arrangement legible while allowing the same performance to drive a different sound.

Work with Sympose

Sympose can inspect and edit supported sampler or kit state, choose compatible presets, and revise the MIDI performance. It cannot browse arbitrary files or import a private sample without your file-picker gesture.

See Effects and mixing for the rest of the signal chain.
