Edit MIDI clips

Edit notes, velocity, timing, and musical transforms in Clip view.

Select a MIDI clip and open Clip view to edit its notes in the piano roll. Time runs horizontally and pitch runs vertically.

Select and edit notes

  • Click a note to select it.
  • Add to a selection or drag a marquee around several notes.
  • Drag notes to change time or pitch.
  • Drag note edges to change duration.
  • Edit velocity in the velocity lane or inspector.
  • Create notes with the draw interaction or the release keyboard command.
  • Delete, copy, cut, paste, and duplicate selected notes.

Edits are scoped to the active clip. The arrangement places that clip in song time while Clip view works in the clip’s local time.

Grid and timing

The grid controls snap and the unit used by supported keyboard edits. Change the visible time range independently from note height so dense passages remain readable.

Project time signature determines the bar and beat grid. Key and scale can provide visual guidance without preventing chromatic notes.

Inspector and transforms

Use the inspector for exact values and batch changes. Open it from the piano roll toolbar if it is hidden; Sympose remembers that choice as a user setting. Supported deterministic transforms include operations such as transpose, quantize, humanize, and velocity or timing adjustments. Sympose either preserves unsupported musical content or stops with an explanation; it does not silently flatten a richer clip into a lossy note list.

Ask Sympose to revise a clip

Use musical intent when you want a composed result:

Rewrite the cadence with a suspended voicing, but keep the rhythm.

Use a deterministic instruction when you want a mechanical transform:

Quantize the selected drum clip to sixteenths.

After the run, inspect the affected notes and audition the clip in the full arrangement.

See Keyboard shortcuts for the final release bindings.
